June 2nd status update

We are still making good progress at the Oyster House.  The main part of the new roof has now been constructed and the windows and the roof of the lantern roof light are being made.

New roof with temporary covering
The roof has a temporary covering that keeps out most of the rain so work is progressing well inside, too. Downstairs, the floor insulation has gone in and the walls and floor have been lined with the Delta membrane system that gives us a totally waterproof layer.

Tanking and insulation in downstairs bedroom

We are now getting close to the point when the new grp roof covering is going to go on the whole of the roof so we have been working out exactly where the holes need to be for things like the kitchen extractor and the flues and where the mountings need to be for the balustrade.  Getting any of this wrong would mean having to make additional holes in the membrane and that rather defeats the object ...

We had a meeting with the plumber on site this morning and talked through with him the bathroom layouts that we have been thinking about. He is going to start the first fix plumbing at the end of this week and we are meeting the Rep. from the heating company on Thursday so we can order the components we need for the under floor heating system.

Diane and I have now chosen many of the internal elements that are in our bailiwick.  The most exiting of these is undoubtedly the wood burning stove that we think is rather sexy and just right for the Oyster House.  Check this out: http://dovre.co.uk/stoves-fires/vintage-30-wood-stoves/.  We have still got to make what are probably the hardest procurement decisions - the dreaded bathrooms!  It is very easy to loose the will to live by spending only a very short time looking though bathroom catalogues and it is even worse online!
