Construction work starts!

I think we have passed a major milestone this week.  After what seems like an age spent on demolition and digging, we have actually started some construction work.  The guys first put down a light layer of concrete so they could control the mud and water in the hole and then they fitted the underground pumped sump system and the radon trap.  Since then, they have started putting in the reinforcing steelwork and have begun to build some of the proper concrete floor.

The plan is to build the new side wall in stages so that we don't have any problems with the stability of the exposed face that might cause damage to the lane or to the main sewer beneath it.

And, yes, I am pleased to report that Peter did manage to get the digger out of the hole after he had finished digging!

  1. What a lovely transformation! It’s amazing how the right vision and a lot of care can breathe life into an old space. I’ve seen a few coastal restorations done by a construction company in the Philippines, and it’s always the mix of charm and smart engineering that makes them stand out. The Oyster House is looking like one of those gems!
