Well, it has been fairly testing at the Oyster House this week. We have had the very worst of the weather that the South West can muster and very high spring tides. At its worst on Wednesday morning, the tidal surges were lapping close to the bottom of the window at the front of the building. This did not actually cause us any major problems but it did lots of damage around the creek and left a large fishing boat in the middle of the road outside! We are certainly pleased that Peter decided to brick up the old doorway when he did!
The rain has turned the increasingly large hole at the back of the building into a bit of a quagmire, though!
The locals are amazed that our builders have carried on despite the awful weather (Peter says the kit is on hire, so he might as well use it!). The bottom of the hole is getting very sticky now and they are having to stop, periodically, and pump out the mud and water. They are just about down to the original ground floor level now, and have perhaps another half metre to go.
We are off "on the piste" next week and we hope the excavation work will be pretty much completed while we are away.
