Onwards and upwards

The builders had a couple of week away from site over Easter when they went back to finish off another job.  We used that time to do some more work in the old part of the property, ourselves, and we stripped out the remainder of the old kitchen, removed most of the floorboards and removed the old toilet.

The builders returned last week and things are now moving on fairly quickly.  The remainder of the new first floor has now been installed and the block wall in the stairwell has gone in (they have also installed a new temporary toilet but that is more in their interests than ours!).

It's not red brick but it is a ...
New dividing wall in the stairwell

This week, the old roof has been cut back to the wall and the timber framing has started.  We had a meeting on site today to try to work out exactly how the spiral staircase to the roof terrace is going to work.  We have some ideas on how to solve this but Andy needs to draw it out so we can be confident it is going to work before we try to build it!  We also had some interesting discussions about how to finish off the roof that covers our property and a small part of the one next door.  As you know, there are some interesting views from our roof terrace - most of these are across the creek to Noss Mayo but some are through the Velux window straight into our neighbour's bathroom!

The first bit of timber framing goes in!
Will you tell her we can see into her
 bathroom, or shall I?
